Seedstars Crowns Weego As Morocco's Best Startup And Has A Chance To Win $1 Million

Weego is a transit collaborative app that allows users to move easily with public transport.

Crowning Weego as the first runner up in Seedstars Casablanca on July 6th, Seedstars World has closed Morocco's round and looks forward to see the winner at the final global summit taking place in April 5th. The event took place last Friday, at LaFactory, as seven other startups were handpicked to present their companies in front of the local jury panel.

Morocco's "best startup," Weego, a collaborative app that allows users to move easily with public transit, has been praised for its innovative solution. "I've been following every edition of Seedstars for three years now, and I never imagined that it would be up to me to win the regional summit and represent my whole homeland," says Saad Jittou, Weego's CEO. "Being elected among the eight most promising startups in Morocco was enough for me; but Seedstars gave me a chance to compete with other regional champions and Weego is ready to take up the challenge."

Popaddress, a marketplace for renting short-term retail spaces, was crowned as Morocco's second best startup. The company has a simple business model, where their platform connects brands and businesses with landlords for short term space rental. Whereas Zelij Invent came in third, producing construction products such as pavers and floor tiles using a new formula based on 80 percent plastic waste.

As a part of the prize, Weego will be participating at the Seedstars Summit, which takes place in Switzerland next year. It is a weeklong training programme, with the opportunity to meet fellow winners from other fast growing economies, as well as investors and mentors from around the world. The final day of the summit is dedicated to a demo day for more than 65 entrepreneurs to pitch in front of an audience of more than 1,000 attendees. But, only one startup will go home with an equity investment of up to USD 1 million among other other prizes.
